The spelling homework as started this week.
I have attached a copy of the spelling activities to be used for homework inside their spelling notebooks, which they are taking home today. I have also sent a copy of that sheet in the homework folders.
Here is how the spelling routine works:
On Monday I will give a pretest on the words for the week. The pretest does not count. Students will take the pretest in their spelling notebooks. I will go over the correct spellings and they will correct it. Then during the week at home, they will do spelling homework activities in the same notebook. The activities that they do is up to them, and will be found on the spelling activity sheet I will send home. There are many activities to choose from and each of them have a different point value. The goal is to do enough activities to reach at least 20 points. So they can do four 5 point activities or one 15 point and one 5..etc. They can always do more of course. The notebook will be collected and checked on Friday (it can stay home until then).
The test will be on Friday.
I give all the words and then on the back of the paper, I give them 5 words to write sentences with.
Now, on the pretest, if they get no more than two mistakes, I will give them a more difficult list instead of the one they pretested on. That challenge list will follow the same spelling rules/patterns for the week, but will be harder words. Those students who receive that list will be tested on those words on Friday instead of the original list of words, and should do the homework for the new list (ignore the original words).
Thank You.
